Self-Made Is A Myth - Make A Difference Together
No one is really self-made! We don’t get to where we end up alone. We’ve all had folks in our journey who’ve helped us achieve our success. Many times those folks don’t even know the impact they’ve had. So, in honor of the fellow business owners in your life that had an impact on you becoming the person you are today, the Self-Made Is A Myth movement celebrates them.

I was born in New Delhi, India. My father was an architect for the Military Engineering Services for India. He had to move every three years. We lived in Delhi, Chandigarh, Udhampur, and then back in Delhi. When I was 12 years old, in 1976, the family moved to Canada. I attended Jr. HS to HS. I graduated in 1991 with a BSc in civil engineering from University of Waterloo in 1991. I move to Connecticut, USA in January of 1994 due to the recession in Canada. I have been following work and career opportunities throughout the USA. In fall of 1998 I moved to Michigan to work on a large project. Then I met my wife Jill in 2000 and we got married in 2003. I moved to Toledo, OH when we got married. We had Lydia/Corey in 2007. In 2011 I was working for the City of Toledo when I was approached by Stephen J. Christian and Sherly George to become a partner in Stephen J. Christian and Associates. We, Jill and I, discussed the opportunity and decided that it was something I should pursue. I accepted the position and we moved to Indiana, in spring 2012. Initially, I was supposed to take the position as a partner and the president in January of 2013. I chose to delay taking the position until 2014. From 2014 we have grown from about 20 total staff and about $2 million to over 90 staff and $14 million in revenue. We acquired an environmental company, Green 3, LLC in 2020 during the pandemic and added construction inspection. We have grown from one office in Indianapolis to five offices in Indiana and one office in Columbus, Ohio.

Ed and his wife, Gina have been married for 28 years. They have five children ranging in age from 8 to 21. He enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, reading and the occasional (or not so occasional) cigar.
Ed began his financial services career in 1994 with a large national firm. He soon realized that most “financial advisors” were salespeople working for companies who manufactured financial products that they wanted to sell to consumers - whether it was right for the client or not. These were not financial advisors working for their clients. These were salespeople working for large institutions.
This is where he got the vision for a firm that would provide financial advice from a truly independent perspective. In 2000 he co-founded Oaktree Financial Advisors. At Oaktree there are no sales pitches. Instead, they work for clients, developing long-term relationships with the highest level of service.
Oaktree Financial Advisors specializes in helping Eli Lilly employees with their financial lives, relieving their stress around money, simplifying their lives, and freeing up their time. Ed is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. As such, he acts as a fiduciary when providing financial advice. This means he puts your best interests first.

No one is really SELF-made
No one ever gets to where they end up alone. Instead, whether we like it or not, we are a culmination of all of the people who have come before us.
Acknowledging your path to this point is more than a stunt to make you seem humble or even just an exercise in gratitude. While humility and gratitude are powerful, taking note of the assistance and support you’ve had on your entrepreneurial journey is a strategic move. When you create the habit of being grateful for your past partners you’ll also begin the habit of acknowledging the positive relationships that are in your life today, and even the ones that are to come. We Make A Difference Together that far surpasses anything we could do on our own.
Pay It Forward
So, in honor of the fellow business owners in your life that had an impact on you becoming the person you are today, let’s celebrate them.
